Rookery Isles

The realm weighs your soul...

Forge Your Destiny

The Rookery Isles Character Creation Wizard

Rookery Isles is a dark fantasy roleplay community in Second Life. Noble houses scheme for power, ancient magic stirs in the deep, and every choice you make carries real weight. Think Game of Thrones crossed with Dungeons and Dragons, played out in real time with other people.

This wizard will guide you from knowing nothing to having a fully realized character ready to walk into your first scene. Answer honestly about what you enjoy, how you play, and what stories call to you. There are no wrong answers. The realm will find the right place for you.

Your Roleplay Background

These questions help us understand your experience level so we can match you with a house and role that suits how you play. Nothing here is a test. Newcomers and veterans are equally welcome.

How would you describe your roleplay experience?
Brand New I have never roleplayed before and want to learn.
Some Experience I have played in a few RP communities or tabletop games.
Experienced I have years of RP under my belt across multiple communities.
Veteran RP is my primary hobby. I can run scenes, build arcs, and create conflict.

Tabletop / D&D
Forum / Discord RP
MMOs / Video Games
LARP
Nowhere Yet
How much time do you typically have for roleplay each week?
A few hours I drop in when I can. Life comes first.
Several sessions a week I carve out regular RP time.
Nearly every day RP is a significant part of my schedule.

Phase II: Your Nature

What calls to you in a story, traveler? What keeps you coming back?

The Heart of Why You Play

There is no right answer here. Some people play for combat. Some play for politics. Some want to fall in love or scheme their way to power. All of it is welcome in the Rookery Isles. We just need to know what lights you up.

When you imagine the perfect RP session, what just happened?
A political scheme paid off Months of subtle maneuvering finally bore fruit. The council vote went your way. Power shifted.
A heroic stand against the odds Outnumbered, outmatched, but you held the line. People will tell this story for years.
A mystery cracked wide open Clues fell into place. The truth was bigger than anyone expected. Knowledge is real power.
An emotional scene that hit hard A confession. A betrayal. A moment of forgiveness. The kind of scene that stays with you after you log off.
A relationship that changed everything Romance, rivalry, family bonds, or a friendship forged through fire. Personal connections that reshape your character's world.
I built something that mattered A business, a guild, a territory, a legacy. Something that changed the world around me.
A wild adventure with high stakes A dungeon, a sea voyage, a hunt through wilderness. Action, danger, and survival.
When conflict arises in RP, you are most drawn to...
Direct confrontation Face to face. Say what you mean. Let the strongest will prevail.
Subtle manipulation Words, alliances, and leverage. The best victories are the ones they never saw coming.
Mediation and diplomacy Find common ground. Broker peace. The real power is being trusted by both sides.
Endurance and survival Outlast them. Weather the storm. Those still standing when the dust clears are the ones who win.
I respond to what comes I do not seek out conflict, but I do not shy from it either. I let the story unfold and react honestly.
Which statements resonate with you? Pick up to two.
"Actions define who you are, not words or bloodlines."
"Knowledge and preparation beat raw strength every time."
"Loyalty to your people is the only thing that matters."
"Adapt or die. The world does not wait for the stubborn."
"The natural world has its own wisdom, and we ignore it at our peril."
"Everyone deserves a second chance. The past does not have to define the future."

Phase III: Your Path

The realm is vast, traveler. Where does your story take root?

Setting, Theme, and Fantasy

The Rookery Isles spans frozen warrior kingdoms, ancient elven forests, steampunk industrial cities, mystical islands, and everything between. These questions narrow down which corner of the world feels like home for your character.

Which landscape calls to you?
Frozen Peaks & Mead Halls Ice, iron, and the howl of northern winds. Clan fires burn against the dark.
Ancient Forests & Hidden Groves Trees older than civilizations. Rivers that whisper secrets. Nature untouched.
A Grand Desert City Golden domes, bustling markets, palace intrigue. The capital where power concentrates.
Industrial Ports & Steam-Powered Cities Factories, ironclad ships, invention. The smell of coal and the sound of progress.
A Mystical Island of Scholars Ley lines pulse underfoot. Ancient libraries hold forbidden knowledge. Magic saturates everything.
A Land of Festivals & Diplomacy Music in the streets, deals in the backrooms. Influence flows like wine.
War-Scarred Lands Rebuilding Rubble and resilience. Scars that tell stories. Something new growing from the wreckage.
Rolling Valleys & Fortress Estates Fertile lands, armored knights, tournament grounds. Old blood and older grudges.
What kind of role appeals to you most?
Warrior / Fighter Steel solves problems. You protect what matters through strength and skill.
Mage / Scholar Knowledge is the true weapon. You study, research, and bend reality itself.
Diplomat / Politician Your weapon is words. Alliances, negotiations, and the art of influence.
Rogue / Merchant / Trader You work in the spaces between. Opportunity is everywhere if you know where to look.
Healer / Keeper of Lore You mend what is broken, whether bodies, minds, or forgotten histories.
Builder / Inventor / Craftsman You create things. Weapons, ships, solutions. Your hands shape the future.
Noble / Aristocrat Bloodline, duty, and legacy. The weight of family name drives everything.
Beast Rider / Nature Guardian Your bond is with creatures, not politics. The wild is where you belong.
Which type of ongoing story would keep you hooked for months?
A slow climb to power Starting low, building influence, eventually becoming someone the whole realm has to deal with.
A redemption arc Carrying the weight of past mistakes. Earning trust one action at a time. Proving you are more than your history.
Unraveling a conspiracy Something is wrong. The clues are there. You will find the truth no matter what it costs.
Survival against the odds Threats closing in. Resources dwindling. You and yours against a world that wants you gone.
Becoming a legend Deeds that echo. A name spoken with respect or fear. The kind of character bards write songs about.
How do you feel about playing a character who faces prejudice or distrust from other characters?
Some houses in the Rookery Isles carry political baggage. Mudae characters face open hostility. Sandstinger characters are resented for isolation. Dawnstar characters are called barbarians. This is by design and creates powerful RP, but it is not for everyone.
Bring it on That tension IS the story. I want to fight for respect.
Some is fine A little friction adds flavor, but I do not want it to define every interaction.
I prefer being welcomed I want to be respected or at least neutral in most interactions.

Phase IV: The Realm Has Spoken

Traveler, your answers shaped a path. Here is where it leads.

Your House Affinity

Below are your top matches, ranked by how well they align with your answers. Your top match is selected by default. Click any house to select it instead. The sorting is a guide, not a decree.

Do not see yourself in the top result? That is perfectly fine. You know your own story best. You can select any house when building your character in the next phase.

Phase V: Who Are You?

The realm knows your house. Now it wants to know your station, traveler.

Not everyone in a great house wears a crown. Some wear aprons. Some wear armor. Some wear the calluses of honest labor. These questions help us understand where you fit in the world.

A feast is held at the great hall. Where do you picture yourself?
At the high table Speaking with lords and ladies. You belong where decisions are made.
With the merchants and guild masters You earned your seat. Not by blood, but by being too useful to ignore.
In the crowd, with the people Good food, good drink, good company. Titles are for people who need them.
Working the feast Somebody has to pour the wine and turn the spit. Might as well be you.
How do you feel about working with your hands?
I don't make things. That's what the little people are for.
I built my reputation with these hands. Every piece I've made has my name on it. That means something.
These hands are all I've got, and they've never let me down. I don't need fancy tools or magic. Just give me work and I'll get it done.
I prefer to work with my mind. Strategy, knowledge, persuasion. The pen is mightier and all that.
Someone hands you a chest of gold. What do you do with it?
Invest it. Expand my holdings. Buy influence. Money is a tool. Tools are for building empires.
Open a shop. Hire apprentices. Build something real. Gold sitting in a chest is useless. Put it to work.
Fix the roof, buy seed for spring, put the rest away. You don't get rich by spending. You get safe by being careful.
Throw a party. Life's too short. What good is gold if nobody's having a good time?
What makes someone important?
Blood, title, and the weight of their name. Lineage matters. History matters. You cannot fake a bloodline.
What they've built and who trusts them. Titles are given. Trust is earned. I know which one I value more.
Whether they show up when it matters. You can have all the gold and titles in the world. If you're not there when things go wrong, you're nothing.
Power. Everything else is decoration. The person who controls the room is the important one. End of discussion.
You wake up. What's the first thing on your mind?
What needs to be decided today. People are waiting on you. Responsibilities don't sleep in.
What needs to be made, sold, or delivered. Orders to fill. Customers to see. The forge doesn't light itself.
Whether the weather will hold for the work. Rain means mud. Mud means delays. You check the sky before you check anything else.
Who I need to talk to and what I need to know. Information is currency. The day starts with knowing what everyone else is up to.

Phase VI: Your Place In The World

The realm knows who you are, traveler.

Phase VII: Forge Your Character

The details that bring a name to life. Build well, traveler.

OOC Information

This section is about you, the player. It stays between you and staff.

The Rookery Isles is an adult RP community. This is required.
Be honest. There is no wrong answer. We match new players with mentors.

In-Character Details

Choose a name that fits your character's race and culture. Elven names tend to be flowing and multi-syllabic. Human names can range from common Western names to fantasy-inspired ones. Dwarven names are often short and strong. If you are unsure, pick something you like and staff can help you refine it.
Select your house first — your race options depend on your house. We do not allow furries. Special or exotic races require staff approval.
Your sorting suggested a house. You may choose any.
Your house determines your primary class specialty. Select your house first.
Examples: Nobleman, Healer, Soldier, Merchant, Scholar, Farmer, Criminal, Diplomat, Servant, Adventurer, Tavern Owner, Spy, Courtesan
Answer the prompts below to build your character's history. Do not worry about knowing all the lore. Answer with what feels right and staff will help connect it to the world.

Before You Write

Every character in the Rookery Isles starts small. You can have training, education, personal skills, and a life before you arrived. What you do not have is political influence, legendary fame, or a role in major world events. You are arriving in the story, not already at the center of it.

Growth happens through roleplay. A character who earns their place over months of RP has a story worth telling. Write someone who has somewhere to go, not someone who has already been everywhere.

Things that will get your app sent back: Secret royal bloodlines, connections to rulers or gods, participation in the Great War as a key figure, being "secretly" powerful or ancient, or concepts borrowed directly from other settings. Keep it grounded. Keep it humble. The glory comes later.

Age must make sense for your race and starting level. A young character with drive will earn more in RP than an old character with a grand backstory. If you play an older character, their race should support that longevity (elves live centuries, humans do not).

What a Good Backstory Looks Like

"Maren grew up on a farm outside Frosthold. Her father was a blacksmith who sold blades to the Duke's soldiers. She learned the forge before she learned to read. When the war took her father, she finished his last commission and walked south to find work. She is not a hero. She is a woman with strong hands and no home, looking for a reason to stay somewhere."

No secret powers. No famous parents. No grand destiny. Just a person with a past and a reason to be here. That is the starting point. The glory comes through RP.

Tell us about the family your character grew up in. What did they value? What was expected of you? Who mattered most and why? Minimum 75 words. Two paragraphs suggested.
0 words
Something changed the course of your character's life. A loss, a discovery, a failure, a choice, or something that happened to someone they cared about. Describe it. Minimum 75 words. Two paragraphs suggested.
0 words
Your character is starting their story in the Rookery Isles. Where are they right now and what are they doing there? What is the first chapter of their life here? Minimum 75 words. Two paragraphs suggested.
0 words
Not "what level will they be" — what story do you want to tell? What do they want to become? Who do they want to matter to? This helps staff understand your vision and set you up for great RP.

Knowledge Check
